How does a robotic lawnmower work?

Unlike what some people think, robotic lawnmowers are simple to use. ROB will work within a boundary wire. The boundary wire is installed around the edges of the lawn and around large objects like trees or bushes. Below you will find the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about how ROB works.

HOW LONG DOES ROB TAKE TO RECHARGE?

The typical charging time for ROB is about 50 minutes. Charge and mowing phases always alternate and can depend on the conditions. You'll set your own schedule and ROB will do it all by itself.

HOW DO I START AND STOP THE MCCULLOCH ROB?

Once the system is installed and the calibration of the guide wire has been carried out you can easily start ROB by pressing START and closing the keypad hatch. To stop ROB just press the STOP button and the keypad hatch will automatically open for you.

HOW DOES ROB KNOW WHERE TO GO?

ROB’s working area is defined by a boundary wire that could be compared with the fence for sheep. ROB will operate in a random pattern within the boundary wire – this results in a neat carpet-like looking result.

WHAT HAPPENS IF ROB HITS TREES OR OTHER OBJECTS?

ROB will gently touch the tree, turn around and change direction. Obstacles are generally not a problem for ROB. For permanent objects, it is recommended to lay the boundary wire around them.

DO I NEED TO BURY THE WIRE IN THE GROUND?

No. The wire can be laid on the ground using the supplied pegs – after some weeks the wire will be grown over and it will disappear into the grass. A helpful tip is to cut the grass as short possible at the edge to get the wire as close to the ground as possible. However, to allow for aerating of your lawn, you can bury the wire up to 1-20cm deep.
