How do you install a robotic lawnmower?

The installation takes 2-6 hours, depending on the size and complexity of the lawn. Below is a brief description of the different installation stages.

IS THERE AN INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR ROB?

There is an online video where you can learn how to install ROB, the McCulloch robotic lawnmower.

The guide wire is used to tell ROB where the charging station is, so that can he recharge his batteries quickly when required, plus to guide him to remote areas of the garden so that he cuts the lawn evenly.

HOW DO I INSTALL THE BOUNDARY WIRE?

ROB uses boundary wire as a guide, indicating the areas which it should work within. The boundary wire should be installed around the edge of your lawn, and around any large objects like trees and hedges. The boundary wire can be installed in the following ways:

Secure the wire to the ground with pegs - It is recommended that you peg down the boundary wire if you want to make adjustments during the first few weeks of using the robotic lawnmower. A hammer or plastic mallet can be used to secure the pegs that are supplied with ROB. After a few weeks, the grass will have grown over the wire making it no longer visible.

Bury the wire - If you dethatch or aerate your lawn it is recommended that you bury the boundary wire to avoid damage. The boundary should be at least 1cm into the ground and at a maximum of 20cm.


WHERE DO I INSTALL THE CHARGING STATION?

When identifying the best location for your charging station consider the following:

Find a level surface for the charging station which is close to a wall power socket, protected from water spray i.e. garden sprinkler and not in direct sunlight. If your garden has a slope it is recommended that the charging station is placed at the lower part of your garden.

When installing the charging station for ROB you must allow 3 metres of free space in front of the charging station to allow ROB to enter cleanly. You must also be able to lay at least 1.5 metres of boundary wire straight out to the right and left of the charging station.

IF I WANT TO USE ROB AT MY SUMMER HOME OR SHARE HIM WITH A NEIGHBOUR, CAN ROB WORK AT TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS?

Yes. You will need two charging stations and two loop instalments. Every time you move between charging stations you will need to synchronise ROB to the charging station. For the most convenient use, we recommend that you buy and install one robotic lawnmower for each location.

HOW DO I INSTALL THE GUIDE WIRE?

The guide wire is used to tell ROB where the docking station is, so that it can recharge its batteries quickly when required, plus to guide ROB to remote areas of the garden so that the lawn is cut evenly. The guide wire is laid away from the charging station, for instance, out towards a remote part of the working area or through a narrow passage and then connected with the boundary wire. The same cable roll is used for both the boundary and guide wires.

HOW DO I CONNECT TO WIRE ENDS?

Always use the solderless original coupler whenever connecting to wire ends, for example when connecting the guide wire to the boundary wire. Insert the boundary wire in each of the holes in the coupler. Insert the guide wire in the centre hole in the coupler. Check that the wires are fully inserted into the coupler so that the ends are visible through the transparent area on the other side of the coupler. Use pliers to completely compress the button on the coupler.
